Our Impact

Since Winter 2015 Give a Kid a Blanket has gifted over 120,000 objects of warmth and comfort.
This number includes blankets, duvets, bedding and clothing to those in need.

This practical support of warmth impacts on families by improving health outcomes, better school and work attendance, decreased stress in the family and a feeling of care from the community.

Give a Kid A Blanket have been instrumental in helping Police care for, support and build trust and confidence with the most vulnerable members of our community. The blankets, clothing, toys and food they have been able to source and provide as a result of generous donations from our community, in support of those most vulnerable is quite honestly, humbling. The team at Give a Kid a Blanket makes us all want to be better human beings.

Our relationship with Give a Kid a Blanket has made such a difference to our clients and their families. Many come to us with multiple issues and while we help them find safety and help them on their healing journey it is wonderful to be able to access some good quality basics which give comfort as well as practical assistance. It helps to cement trust but more importantly reminds people that they are part of a community that cares and gives hope for a better future. Give a Kid a Blanket is a treasured community partner.

How we work

Give a Kid a Blanket works with community service agencies and their staff who make requests for resources on behalf of their client’s families. We work closely with the New Zealand Police, Public Health Nurses, Community and Social Workers and other Charitable Trusts.

Resourcing these Community Professionals, better allows them to do their work, and makes their lives in their day-to-day work easier as well.Once we receive a referral our volunteers at Blanket Base (our physical premise) fill the requests. The items are then picked up and taken to the family by their service worker.

Give a Kid a Blanket has no direct contact with families and asks that their needs rather than their personal details are given to us. We take only requests placed by community support professionals and do not offer support to individuals directly.

We use Facebook as our main platform to communicate with our donors and volunteers.
We keep our community of kindness up to date, usually daily.
