Since Winter 2015 Give a Kid a Blanket has gifted over 120,000 objects of warmth and comfort to those in need.

These good people saw our call out for Pyjamas and responded with a generous donation. Lovely to have Josh along with daughters Marnie & Mila drop them off today and take to time to have a look around. Great to see businesses like Steadfast Construction supporting the community.

Our regular followers will know magnificent Maggie

Our regular followers will know magnificent Maggie. This incredible human has been making and donating beautiful hand made labour of love blankets to GaKaB for years, Usually 10 or more at a time. Todays pick up was no exception.
"Do you want me to keep going" Maggie asked, "Yes" I said, "but no pressure if you don't want to". " Oh yes" said Maggie "This is what keeps me going", and with that Maggie sat down, took up her hook and was off again. Amazing, humble and 95 in June.
Much of Maggie's work comes from donated yarn, she loves 8ply. If you have any to donate please do get in touch.

We were pleased to have Gaye along with Caleb & Isabelle visit today. They brought along a donation of pyjamas that Caleb and Isabelle chose and Gaye donated on behalf of her 5 grandchildren. Fabulous Grand parenting

Part of Heather & Jerry's birthday celebrations wa

Part of Heather & Jerry's birthday celebrations was having son Gavin and his wife Oda come from Norway to celebrate. Gavin & Oda along with their children gave us a generous donation with which we bought Pyjamas. It was lovely to show Gavin & Oda around the GaKaB hub today, which included seeing the PJs that would be going out into the community thanks to their kindness.

Our fabulous friends, and GaKaB volunteers, Heathe

Our fabulous friends, and GaKaB volunteers, Heather & Jerry had a combined 80th birthday celebration last Sunday. Typical of their proactive community kindness they asked that guests did not give them gifts, but brought along items for GaKaB instead. The outpouring of gifted kindness spoke volumes about the love and respect that surrounds our octogenarian hosts.

The last donation of the morning was both impressive and inspiring.
Jessica, seen here with sister Emily and proud mum Liz, brought in this collection of hand knits. Jessica has produced these all over the last year. All stunning and beautifully made by a novice knitter who learned by using the internet. Amazing!
We were pleased that we had a group of experienced knitter volunteers in working who all made happy sounds as they examined each piece and importantly told Jessica how special both her work, and she is.
Thanks Jessica and family, so glad you are part of our community of kindness.

Judy came in this morning with more of her quilted works of art, including these stunners. Judy is typical of our handmade craft donors, happy to give us their work trusting it will go where it is needed without them ever getting to see the joy on the recipients face. Humble humanitarians heroes.

I am always excited to get a message from fabulous

I am always excited to get a message from fabulous Alice saying she has a donation ready for collection.
Alice is an amazing crafter and has produced an absolute abundance of quilts and blankets for GaKaB since February 2020. Amazing to think how many people have been warmed by Alice's creations over that time. Legend.

We were very excited to meet Janine, in red, along with Alysha today.
Janine is the amazing human who started the Dunedin bedding bank.
We have messaged for a couple of years, offering ideas and support when we could so finally meeting was very special.
The cold we will get in Auckland come winter was already in Dunedin today, and the folk Janine supports are definitely doing it tough. If you are in Dunedin check out Dunedin bedding bank . If you have family or friends that are in Dunedin encourage them to check out Dunedin bedding bank

We were thrilled that GaKaB was a semi finalist for the work we do on a daily basis.
Less than two weeks ago we found out that we were privileged to be included in the 'Cyclone Gabrielle Volunteers', a composite of a number of nominates who contributed support during and after Cyclone Gabrielle. As part of this group we were suddenly a finalist.
