Community of Kindness
Give a Kid a Blanket is heavily reliant on the community of kindness that surrounds it. This community is made up of many people.
Following
Our Social Media followers, those that like, share and engage with our activity help us get the word out to gather support and donations for people that need it most. By simply following our Social Media pages you become a part of the Give a Kid a Blanket community.
Donors
This might be the donation of new or excellent quality pre-loved items or financial donations. Every single donation makes a difference, nothing is too little or too much. Check out Donate to find out more.
Volunteers
Give a Kid a Blanket is completely non-profit and runs on volunteer energy. In Winter we have up to 100 volunteers actively working within our organisation. This includes everyone from volunteers in our Blanket Base and those that act as drop off points in the community for people to drop donations too. Click here to volunteer via our Facebook group.
Support Workers
We couldn’t operate without the support of Professional Social and Support Workers. They are essential as they assist us in getting our donations to people who need them in the community. These workers include Police, Public Health Nurses, Community and Social Workers who work at a grassroots level in the community each and every day. By having a sound operational system in place with our Support Workers and Blanket Base we are able to tailor each request to each family’s need. The added bonus, apart from the worker returning to the client with practical help, is that it positively benefits the relationship between client and worker.
Those we serve
The most important members of our community of kindness are those who benefit from what we are able to gift them. Practical resources of warm bedding, clothes and where applicable food can change people’s lives. Positive results include a good night’s sleep, improved health outcomes, better school attendance and happier family life.
You will not find these folk documented on our website or on our Social Media pages. We believe that often emphasising those who benefit from a charity’s work can end up being victimising. Rather we highlight and celebrate our donors, volunteers and social support workers.
